Lately I’ve been talking to a number of business owners about how to stay connected during this challenging time. For some, the first instinct is to pull back and take care of their business rather than to reach out online.  While hunkering down is understandable, I think that not reaching out to others is a missed opportunity.

Here are three things you can do to connect with customers online in new ways:

  1. Don’t be afraid to share your personality. The reason that people buy your products and services is because they know you, they like you, and they trust you. What could be better than that? The best thing you can do is share video and written posts that tell your customers how you are doing and what they can expect.
  2. If you need help, ask for it. For many non-profits and even for-profit small businesses, this is a very scary time and let’s face it, we all need help sometimes – especially now. For example, if you are in the middle of a fundraising campaign, keep reaching out with messaging and your goals. Your organization still needs that community support and your community is here, online, waiting to hear from you.
  3. If you have a product or service that can help other businesses, share it! Don’t worry that it’s too ‘promotional.’ If there is something you know how to do, teach others those skills. If there is a product you have that can lighten someone’s load, share it. We rise by lifting others, right? I didn’t make that up but it sure resonates with me!

If there is any takeaway from this time, it’s that we all crave connection– Introverts, extroverts, ambiverts, all of us! With that in mind, try to find some small ways to share your voice, your ideas, your solutions, yourself… online. Your community is looking forward to hearing from you!
